Northland's NewsCenter: Republicans Find Opportunity in Health Care Debate

March 24th

"We can't afford it, I mean this is a trillion dollar bill, we owe 12 trillion dollars right now, at a time when I think we're close to driving off the economic ledge."

Sean Duffy, is a former reality TV star, champion Lumberjack and current Ashland County District Attorney.

Now he's hoping to unseat nearly 40 year incumbent of the U.S House of Representatives Dave Obey.

Many republican hopefuls are smelling blood after the passage of the massive health care bill, where not a single republican voted for the legislation.

Obey who voted for the legislation said if he loses to Duffy because of the vote it will have been worth it.

"It is certainly far from perfect, social security wasn't perfect when it was passed, it had to be changed many times, so was Medicare, so will this be but frankly as far as political considerations are concerned I quit worrying about those a long time ago."

"Duffy, a self described fiscal and social conservative says it's going to be an easy decision for the people of northern Wisconsin come November who to vote for."

"People aren't happy, but I think when you live in this vortex of Washington D.C. and that's where he's been for the last forty years and I think you become out of touch and if he was willing to impose his will for the will of the people that's fine but there's consequences for that and the consequences are you lose your job."

Obey doesn't agree.

"It's a free country, candidates can use any arguments they want and the arguments they use will say a whole lot more about them then they say about me."

This could be the most competition Obey has ever faced during his time in Washington.

The Duffy campaign has raised over 300-thousand dollars far eclipsing any of Obey's previous opponents.

Duffy also added a major endorsement to his list, former Alaska Governor, turned Political Pundit Sarah Palin announced her support for Duffy in February.
